What Would Happen Without Payroll Admins

Eyeballs peaking through 100 dollar billsIt takes more than the push of a button to get a check through the system and into your bank account. Payroll Administrators are the ones behind the scenes, and their roles extend far beyond just cutting checks.

So who are Payroll Administrators and what exactly do they do?

Well let’s start with the obvious... Their job is to make sure employees get paid.

Sounds simple, right?

The reality of it is that paying out employees is actually a very daunting task. A Payroll Administrator’s job is to be the last person that checks your paycheck to make sure everything is accurate.

What you don't know about the payroll department is their job can be more demanding some months rather than others depending on the projects they're working on or the time of year. Between audits, W2s, year end, quarter end, W4s, direct deposits, new hire processing, retros, and termination paperwork, the payroll team’s day-to-day is always busy.  And lets not forget that they are also viewed as "customer support" for employees and are the go to person for any of their questions or concerns related to their paycheck and benefits.

And, rarely does the payroll team ever handle just payroll - it’s usually just one facet of their jobs. Payroll Administrators can come in many forms -- Human Resources, Accounting, and Office Administrators, to name a few -- and handle just as many aspects of office functions.

So, what would happen without Payroll Admins?

We can't say it would be smooth sailing. In payroll there is really no room for error. It takes a lot of people and a ton of little details to triple check in such a small window of time. The risk for error would increase and employee’s paychecks would pay the price.
